The state of New York is notorious for its natural landscapes, beautiful architecture, and somewhere in between is the wonderous Untermyer Gardens.
The Danforth community is comfortably housed within proximity to this breathtaking, historical site. Residents are only a short 20 minute drive from one of the most beautiful gardens in New York.
The Untermyer Gardens
The Untermyer Gardens have stood for over 100 years. It was created with heartfelt intention in the early 1900's. The garden is only a small portion of a greater estate known as Greystone.
The present day botanical landscape is officially recognized as a park by the City of Yonkers, NY. This historical site is maintained by efforts of The Untermyer Gardens Conservancy.
Samuel Untermyer
Samuel Untermyer was a prominent figure and well known lawyer in the late 1800's and early 1900's. His journey began in the state of VA but soon moved to NY after significant financial success.
Sam was a passionate man with a desire to explore the depths of horticulture. This fascination developed into a new project for him. He created his own beautiful, immaculate gardens which have become known today as The Untermyer Gardens.
Public Events
The conservancy team values the historical importance of The Untermyer Gardens. They work hard to maintain the property for all guests to enjoy as they please. In an effort to extend the gardens to the community, The Untermyer Gardens Conservancy offers a variety of events held throughout the year.
Residents can enjoy a wide variety of entertainment—including celebrations, festivals, and more. The event schedule is provided on their website and available here.
The Untermyer Gardens are perfect for any outdoor lovers. The beautiful experience is worth every visit—and just within reach of The Danforth community.

We all have our favorite go-to restaurants, but where do you eat when you're craving something different? There's no need to drive all the way to Manhattan and deal with the crowds, parking and overall hassle that entails. When you're looking for something new and inventive, Dobbs Ferry has plenty of unique options.
Dobbs Dawg House
While hot dogs are decidedly pedestrian, the ones at Dobbs Dawg House are anything but. Aside from their all-beef hot dogs with natural casings (as well as turkey or veggie dogs) Dobbs Dawg House features side dishes, sauces and toppings made daily in-house. And those toppings? That's where the magic happens. Choose one of their gourmet creations such as the curious sounding Stuffed French Toast Dawg, or be inspired to make your own creation. From mustard and relish to Nutella and Fruity Pebbles, Dobbs Dawg House has it all.
The Parlor
While there are many ways to top a pizza, none are so genius as those you'll find at The Parlor. The owner of two restaurants on this list, Dave DiBari has worked in some of the country's most renowned kitchens, including Windows on the World, Danube and the Mario Batali-owned Babbo. A glance at the menu reveals why DiBari is regarded as one of Westchester's most progressive chefs. From an Everything Bagel Pizza boasting the familiar seed and seasoning mix, to the Bone Marrow Pizza, these are pies you won't find anywhere else.
The Cookery
Also owned by Dave DiBari, The Cookery deems itself an Italian gastropub. That said, this is not your garden-variety Italian cuisine. With a nose-to-tail cooking philosophy, all sorts of unusual items appear on the menu. Take, for example, The Pig Dinner, where a whole roasted pig is served to the table along with varying accompaniments. For those less daring diners, the Goose Fat Potatoes and the lasagna featuring honey nut squash and toasted sunflower seeds are both formidable options.
When you make your home at The Danforth, an exciting culinary scene is right in your backyard. To learn more about our luxury apartment homes (and to perhaps discover local culinary gems of your own), please contact us for a personal tour.

If you're looking for a place that sells fresh fruit, vegetables, and other locally produced goods, then don't miss the Hastings Farmers Market.
It began in 1998 from humble beginnings, and today it is Westchester County's premier market with an eclectic blend of farmers and food artisans.
Most of the products come from the Hudson Valley, and vendors include:
Bien Cuit
At Bien Cuit, the European bread loaves are formed by hand with proofing times up to 64 hours. Zachary Golper is a 2018 James Beard semi-finalist for "Outstanding Baker," and he mixes the dough daily in small batches. The selection may include bread such as olive, raisin walnut, and cherry pane dolce.
Climax Cooperative
Nestled a few miles west of the Hudson River, Climax Cooperative is a worker-owned market garden. It sits on less than an acre and produces 25 different vegetables. Depending on the season, the choices may include peppers, cucumbers, bok choi, and more.
The Orchards of Concklin
The Concklin family has farmed land in Pomona since 1711. Nicholas Concklin established the orchard on four hundred acres, and it was worked continuously through the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the first metropolitan pressures of the early twentieth century. They grow several varieties of apples, peaches, and plums among others.
FarmEats
FarmEats calls Carlisle home and is known for offering the finest New York State grass-fed beef. The cows graze on grassy pastures from spring through fall and are raised without added hormones or antibiotics. Farmer Frank Johnson offers an array of choices such as sirloin steak, filet mignon, and beef short ribs.

Established in 1900, the original park was 10,000 acres. Today, it is part of a network of 19 parks and 9 historic sites. It covers more than 100,000 acres across New York State and New Jersey. Located along the west bank of the Hudson River, the park offers boat ramps, hiking trails, scenic drives, ski trails, and picnic areas.
Old Croton Aqueduct
This large water distribution network was completed in 1842 to supply New York City's growing population. Although it was later partially substituted by a newer aqueduct in 1890, it remained in use until 1955. The aqueduct carried water 41 miles using gravity and supplied the city whose poor relied on unsanitary well water. Several Victorian-era structures remain along its trails including the Keeper's House which was built in 1857.
Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park
This park offers 10 acres of beautiful Hudson River waterfront views. Here, visitors can enjoy a fishing pier, a boat dock, picnic areas, exercise equipment, and a playground. The park is part of the larger Westchester County RiverWalk which spans 51 miles and 14 municipalities.

Our residents at The Danforth have many local options when it comes to entertainment and events. One of these is the historic Lyndhurst mansion, which is located a short drive away.
Lyndhurst is a historic mansion located on 67 acres of beautiful grounds next to the Hudson River. Build in the mid-19th century in the gothic revival style, the Lyndhurst mansion initially attracted controversy because of its unorthodox design. Home to several of New York's wealthiest individuals for nearly a century, most notably late 19th century railroad magnate Jay Gould, it has been owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation since 1961. Today, the mansion and the surrounding 67 acres are open to the public.
There are many activities at the Lyndhurst mansion. You can take a self-guided tour of the mansion itself, and observe the unique pieces of 19th and 20th century furniture and the large art collection. You can also climb the observation tower and look at the breathtaking views of the Hudson River. If you are interested in outdoor activities, you can also take a walk on the well-maintained grounds of the mansion, which are still kept in the 19th century style of landscaping.
Lyndhurst also has a wide variety of events throughout the year, such as classical music performances, plays, lectures, and craft events. There are also holiday themed events, such as Christmas shopping opportunities and Halloween-themed tours.
The Lyndhurst Mansion opens April 7th for its spring season.

For those who wish to warm up before their round, there is an onsite practice facility that features a full-size putting and chipping green.
Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point
Nestled in the Bronx, the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is the top public golf course in New York. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course was created to offer a unique golf experience, and it has won numerous accolades by publications such as Golf Digest. Did you know that Mocha is a port city on the Red Sea in Yemen?
Nearly all coffee was produced in the Middle East until the seventeenth century, and because of its prime shipping location, Mocha was the globe's top coffee marketplace.
Eventually, coffee cultivation expanded to the European colonies of South America, which diminished Mocha's commercial power.
However, the beans exported from Mocha had been so well-liked throughout Europe, that "mocha" became shorthand for any top-flight coffee.
If you would like to enjoy a steaming cup of coffee, the best nearby shops include:

They visit farmers in coffee growing regions, and the shop is a certified three-star green restaurant. On the menu, guests find Guatemalan Royal Select, Finca Kimmy, Sumatra Lintong Batik Nauli, and much more.
Muddy Water
Voted the "Best New Coffee Shop" by Westchester Magazine in 2017, Muddy Water offers organic, fair trade coffee and espresso drinks. It provides a vibrant, yet relaxed atmosphere and it is where poets read their work and musicians perform original songs. The menu includes Americano, mocha, and cappuccino, as well as sweet treats such as fresh-baked cookies and donuts.
Darling Coffee
Darling Coffee is a quaint neighborhood shop that has been featured in publications such as The New York Times and the Daily Mail.
